Comhlámh - Development Workers in Global Solidarity, Ireland. Comhlámh is a membership based organisation working to promote global solidarity through support for returned development workers, development education and campaigning.

 

Human Rights Internet - H.R.I. is a comprehensive source for all Human Rights Documentation. It chose International Human Rights Day - 10 December, 2000 to unveil its new homepage.

 

Agency for Personal Service Overseas - APSO, the national agency which enables professional men and women to share their skills with communities in the developing world, is part of Ireland Aid, the Government's overseas development assistance programme. The agency recruits qualified and experienced personnel for long and short-term development assignments.

 

Greater Good - This web site is dedicated to making it free and easy to support good causes through everyday internet use. Visitors to the site do what they already do online - shop, search, make travel arrangement etc. - but with the crucial difference that each action automatically generates revenue for a cause they select at no extra cost. By 31 December 2000 they will have generated over £5 million for organisations such as the Special Olympics and Save The Children.   

 

The National Committee on Racism and Interculturalism - The National Committee is a partnership of government departments, agencies and non-governmental organisations. It was established by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in July 1998. The site contains Traveller and Refugee pages, also the Report of 'the Ireland Preparatory Conference' held in Dublin, November 2000 (in advance of the Global Summit to be held on Racism).

 

Volunteer Resource Centre - Promoting, supporting and facilitating voluntary action in Ireland.

 

E-Conflict World Encyclopaedia - With over 1,400 pages of content intended to "eradicate conflict by building cultural awareness".

 

Chernobyl Children's Project - The after effects of the Chernobyl disaster are still being felt in the region. The web site of the Chernobyl Children's Project provides information on all aspects of its work.

 

Cultural Survival - Dedicated to indigenous voices, highlighting issues, extensive links and access to 'Cultural Survival Quarterly'.

 

Institute of War and Peace Reporting - This award-winning web site aims to contribute to the resolution of conflict and to the strengthening of civil society. 

 

Irish Heart Foundation - The Irish Heart Foundation web site provides information on training for health professionals, training to save a life CPR and ACLS, Fundraising, Slí na Slainte (Path to health) i.e. the network of marked walking routes throughout Ireland.

Bóthar - Helping People To Help Themselves. Bóthar is the organisation which uses Irish farm animals in Development Aid. For the past ten years Bóthar has been flying Irish farm animals to the Third World and giving them out individually to poor farming families.

All friends of the environment should visit this Friends of the Earth site. It offers newsbriefs on environmental issues (new laws for wildlife, The Hague Climate Change talks, etc.), details of international and local environmental campaigns and a comprehensive list of environmental publications.

It uses situations such as the potential extinction of the Eastern Panther to make children aware of environmental issues.

The Irish Peatland Conservation Council - This website of the Irish Peatland Convservation Council is a lively, informative and visually attractive site. Use it to learn how raised bogs provided protective covering for archaeological sites, see how turf is harvested and discover what species live on cutover and cutaway bogs. An excellent source of information for school projects.
